SUGGESTED ITINERARY FOR TWO DAYS IN BIRDSVILLE 

Please note that some activities are not available all year round and we encourage people to call ahead, especially from October to March.

Day 1

0730 Birdsville Walking Tour with Alex from Big Red Tours

1030 Morning Tea at The Birdsville Bakery

1130 Browse the Wirrarri Information Centre

1300 Enjoy an OBE Organic burger at The Humpy Cafe, made with locally produced beef 

1400 See the desert from the air with a Birdsville Aviation scenic flight

1500 Browse Annandale Trading Co, our local 100% Australian Made and Owned homeware & gift shop

1700 Catch the sunset at Big Red, on your own or on an all inclusive tour

1900 Dinner at The Birdsville Hotel

2100 Take in the Outback Sky with 4-holes of night golf at the unique Birdsville Dunes Golf Course (start date TBA)

Day 2

0700 Early morning walk to Pelican Point

0800 Breakfast at Karrawa Wirinya Coffee

0930 Experience the Birdsville Court House Hologram Display (check with the visitor info centre for opening dates)

1200 Lunch at the Birdsville Bakery

Afternoon Options

  • Enjoy our new water park at Anzac Park

  • Drop into the National Parks office for a chat with Ranger Don about the area

  • Play 9 holes at the unique Birdsville Dunes Golf Course

  • Hire Finska from the Birdsville Roadhouse and play at your camp, billabong or oval

  • Drop into the Birdsville Roadhouse and pick up our free Scavenger Hunt

  • Explore the history inside the Birdsville Hotel

  • Take a drive to see the rare Waddi Trees

  • Checkout the Thutirla Pula Dreamtime site 

  • Follow the Footsteps of Time around town

  • Hire racquets and balls for a hit of tennis

  • Walk through the Birdsville Race Course and imagine it filled with 5000 people

  • Visit the Burke and Wills Tree

  • Take a look at the Old Diamantina Crossing and imagine hauling food and supplies across by boat in floodwaters

  • Drop a line in the Diamantina and try your luck at fishing

  • Put your feet up and let the kids play at the parks in town

  • Head back to Big Red for an afternoon of fun in the sand

1700 Enjoy a sunset paddle on the Billabong

1930 Grab dinner and a nightcap at The Birdsville Hotel
